cooper lifecycle outreach poster revised.png

Poster created by Anastasia for the KSU Popenoe Entomology Club's Moths and Butterflies in Science Booths at the Junction City Public Library.  The poster was displayed next to live specimens of each developmental stage of silk moths, tomato hornworms, and European corn borers. Kids (and adults) were invited to touch a large hornworm caterpillar, a square of artificial diet, and silk cocoons from silk moths. There was also a display of pinned insect specimens nearby, and a craft table offering the opportunity to make a wearable antennae head band.

Dr. Cooper and graduate student Maggie Anderson helping kids make paintings using maggots at the KSU Popenoe Entomology Club's Insect Booth at the 2021 Friends of Tuttle Creek State Park's OK-Kids Day event. Live blowfly maggots were dipped in various colors of paint (as chosen by the kids) and allowed to crawl across construction paper to make interesting designs. It was the perfect opportunity to discuss the lifecycle of flies and the important role of maggots as decomposers
